THE ART OF TWO plays The Dutch Real Book.
The Art of two consists of trombonist Ilja Reijngoud and guitarist Ed Verhoeff.
They played together in the band Nueva Manteca, with singer Izaline Calister and complemented each other on their own albums. They also regularly performed together on stage as sidemen.
High time for a duo. As The Art of two, they want to showcase a new sound and make music that transcends traditional styles. The key words are interaction, freedom, and fun. The interplay of lines between trombone and guitar is explosively multiplied in this duo through the use of electronics.
With the project The Dutch Real Book, the duo plays the most diverse compositions by Dutch Jazz musicians, from the early 1940s to the repertoire of the young generation of Jazz musicians. The beautiful music of well-known and lesser-known composers, such as Rogier van Otterloo, Jerry van Rooyen, Jasper van t Hof, Jack Bulterman and Kris Goessens forms the basis of this unique program.
When the opportunity presents itself, they like to be tempted by new perspectives on the repertoire by adding a guest soloist. They worked with, among others, Tineke Postma (sax), Sun Mi Hong (dr), Kika Sprangers (sax), Margriet Sjoerdsma (voc) and Angelo Verploegen (tr).
